Canada: Kleenex hand sanitizer recalled over bacterial contamination

About 430 containers of Kleenex Luxury Foam Hand Sanitizer were pulled from shelves after the manufacturer detected bacteria that could cause serious health issues for people with weakened immune systems.

Hand sanitizer is meant to fight germs, but a bad batch distributed throughout Canada is being recalled for fear it will expose consumers to dangerous bacteria.

About 430 containers of Kleenex Luxury Foam Hand Sanitizer were pulled from shelves after product testing by manufacturer Kimberly Clark detected bacteria that could cause serious health problems for people with weakened immune systems, the CBC reported.

The bacteria pose little threat to healthy individuals whose immune systems are able to fight infections.

"For someone whose immune sytem has been weakened by other serious illnesses, especially cystic fibrosis, these bacteria can cause serious infections, including pneumonia and blood infection," Health Canada told UPI.
