PhilaU Focuses on Health for National Women's Health and Fitness ...

The Philadelphia University community will have plenty of ways to participate in the National Women?s Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

First established in 2002, National Women?s Health and Fitness Day seeks to raise awareness about healthy living practices for women. More than 100,000 women of all ages are expected to participate around the country.

Highlights of the day?s activities at PhilaU include:

  • Human resources approved dress down day for faculty and staff with a ($1 minimum) donation to Northern Children Services; donations can be made throughout the day and items can be dropped off for Northern Children Services in The Gallagher Athletic, Recreation and Convocation Center lobby
  • Raffle tickets distributed for each session participant?s attend; tickets can also be purchased
  • Students can receive one PE signature for the completion of each session attended; movie sessions are worth two PE signatures
  • An interactive lunch in Athletic Hospitality Suite from 12:35 to 12:55 p.m.; due to limited available seating, attendees must register prior to the event by emailing Brynn Kolarz, director of fitness and wellness, at KolarzB@PhilaU.edu. Registration must be completed by Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.

National Women?s Health and Fitness Day Schedule of Events

Outdoor walk
12 p.m., The Gallagher Center
Participants will leave from The Gallagher Center at 12 p.m. (weather permitting) for a 30 minute walk; the indoor track in The Gallagher Center will be used in the event of rain

Interactive Lunch with Erin
12:35 to 12:55 p.m., Athletic Hospitality Suite
Lunch will be provided for individuals who have pre-registered (up to 30 individuals) in the Athletic Hospitality Suite; register for the lunch by emailing Brynn Kolarz, director of fitness and wellness, at KolarzB@PhilaU.edu.

Women Against Rape (WAR)
1:05 to 1:45 p.m.; PE Classroom
Women Against Rape provides resources, support, advocacy and education to strengthen the work of all individuals, and communities that are responding to, healing from and struggling to end sexual violence. WAR believes that no single individual, organization, foundation, or business alone can stop the epidemic of sexual assault, but by responding as a whole community, we each bring our piece of the solution.

Body Compositions with Brynn, Erin, and Kasey
1:05 to 1:45 p.m.; Group Exercise Studio
Attendees will learn about their body composition through free measurements and fitness assessments

?A Healthy Plate on Campus? with Jan Little
1:05 to 1:45 p.m.; Athletic Hospitality Suite
Join Janet K. Little, clinical dietitian, on an open forum lecture discussing the ins and outs on how to eat healthy and make healthy choices while living and dining at PhilaU.

Yoga with Kiki
1:50 to 2:30 p.m.; Group Exercise Studio

Movie: Beauty Mark
1:50 to 2:30 p.m.; PE Classroom
Beauty Mark is a documentary that follows the journey of Diane Israel, a psychotherapist and former champion triathlete, who is recovering from anorexia and an obsession with exercising to feel healthy. The film explores the relationship between body image, athletics and beauty.

1:50 to 2:30 p.m.; Athletic Hospitality Suite

Please join a graduate of the Physician Assistant Studies program at PhilaU in discussing topics of your choice! Beauty Mark is a documentary that follows the journey of Diane Israel, a psychotherapist and former champion triathlete, who is recovering from anorexia and an obsession with exercising to feel healthy. The film explores the relationship between body image, athletics and beauty.

For every session that is attended the participant receives one raffle ticket ? the more sessions attended, the better chance you have to win one of four gift baskets at the end of the day. Each basket has a different theme: wellness, healthy cooking, fitness and caffeine craze.

The raffle will take place in the late afternoon on Wednesday, Sept. 26. Raffle participants do not need to be present at the drawing to win. All winners will be contacted via email and phone. Students can also forgo raffle tickets for PE signatures.
